Install and sign in.
Install Emend from the Microsoft Store. Complete Windows setup when prompted, then sign in with your email address or Google.
Emend runs from the Windows tray. Click its icon to open the menu or change your settings.
Check your writing.
Click inside the text field you want to check. Press Ctrl+Shift+Space. Emend opens its review card with suggestions.
Select Accept to apply a suggestion or Skip to leave your text as it is. Accept all applies the clear fixes together. Undo all restores the changes Emend made if the field has not changed since.
Rewrite your text.
To change part of a message, select that passage. To rewrite the whole text field, click inside it without selecting text. Press Ctrl+Alt+R, then choose a style or type an instruction.
Review the original and the rewrite. Choose Replace to apply the result to your selection or the whole field.
You can save styles in Settings under Rewrite styles. Rewrites need an internet connection. Free includes 10 AI rewrites a month, which start again on the 1st. AI checks need Pro. Pro's AI has a monthly allowance, which starts again each time your subscription renews.
Change your preferences.
In Settings, choose your English variant and add terms to your dictionary. Pro users can set writing goals for audience, formality and domain.
Use the tray menu to pause Emend or turn it off for the app you're using.
If Emend cannot read a field.
Click back into the field and try again. Some text editors are not supported. Emend can't write to apps running as administrator, and it doesn't check terminals, code editors or password fields.
In Discord, Emend checks your text but can't change it there. For a rewrite, choose Copy and paste it in yourself.
