Who can use Emend

You must be 16 or older. If you use Emend for an organisation, you confirm you're allowed to agree to these terms for it.

Your account

• You sign in with your email address, a password or Google. Keep your sign-in to yourself. One account is for one person.
• You're responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else is using it, choose Sign out everywhere on your account page and tell us at support@getemend.com.
• Give us an email address you can receive mail at. We use it to sign you in and to tell you about your account and these terms. We don't send marketing.

Free and Pro

• Free checks spelling and grammar on your PC, and includes 10 AI rewrites a calendar month. Unused ones don't carry over. We may change how many with 30 days' notice on this page.
• Pro adds AI suggestions and rewrites. It's a subscription, billed monthly or yearly.

Buying Pro

• Polar sells Pro. Polar Software, Inc. is the merchant of record. It takes the payment, charges any tax and sends your receipts, under its Buyer Terms. These terms cover using Emend.
• The price is US$9.99 a month or US$79.99 a year, plus any tax that applies where you live. You choose which at checkout, and Polar shows the full amount before you pay.
• It renews every month or every year, on the day you bought it, until you cancel.
• You can cancel at any time from your account page, with Manage billing. Pro stays until the end of the month or year you've paid for, and Polar won't charge you again.
• Refunds follow our refund policy. In short, we don't refund a month or year you've already paid for, except where the law requires it or we didn't provide Pro.
• If a payment fails, Pro stops until a payment goes through. Polar emails you and tries your card again for up to 21 days.
• If the price changes, we'll email you at least 30 days before, and the new price starts at your next renewal after that. You can cancel before then.

Fair use

Pro includes AI up to a monthly allowance for each account, which starts again each month of your subscription, on the day of the month you bought it. We set it for one person's everyday writing, and it isn't unlimited. When you reach it, AI features pause until it starts again, and spelling and grammar keep working. The free plan's rewrites start again on the 1st of each month (UTC). Free rewrites can pause for everyone on the free plan until the next month if their use passes what we set aside for them, and Pro's AI keeps working when they do. When our service is under heavy load, AI features may be briefly unavailable for everyone.

Using Emend fairly

Don't:

• use Emend to break the law, or to write content that harasses, threatens or deceives people, or that infringes someone else's rights;
• share your account, or sell or give others access to Emend's AI;
• reach our server other than through the Emend app and getemend.com, or use scripts or bots to send it requests;
• try to get around the allowance or other limits;
• probe, attack, overload or disrupt our server, or try to get into anyone else's account.

We may pause or close an account that does any of these.

Your text

• What you write is yours, and so are Emend's suggestions and rewrites of it.
• You let us process your text only to give you the checks and rewrites you ask for. We don't store it, train AI on it or use it for anything else (see the privacy policy).

AI can be wrong

AI suggestions and rewrites can contain mistakes, or change what you meant. Emend compares each rewrite with your original and warns you if a fact, a figure or a name changed, but it can't catch everything. Read what Emend suggests before you accept it, and before you send what you wrote. Emend doesn't give legal, medical, financial or other professional advice. You're responsible for what you send.

Other people's apps

Emend writes into apps made by other companies. We're not affiliated with them, and their names belong to them. An app can change in a way that stops Emend working in it, and we can't promise Emend works in any particular app. You can undo Emend's changes with Undo all.

The app

We give you a personal licence to install the Emend app on your PCs and use it under these terms. We license the app to you rather than sell it. Parts of it are open-source software under their own licences, listed with the app.

Changes to Emend

We improve Emend and may change, add or remove features. If we stop offering Pro, we'll keep providing it until the end of the month or year you've paid for, and won't charge you again.

Ending your account

• You can delete your account at any time from your account page. That ends your subscription at once, and we don't refund the rest of the month or year. The page tells you this before you confirm.
• We may pause or close your account if you break these terms, or if the law requires it. If we close an account for any other reason, we'll refund the part of the month or year you've paid for and not used.

Our responsibility

• We provide Emend "as is". To the extent the law allows, we don't promise that it will always be available, work in every app or be free of mistakes.
• To the extent the law allows, we're not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, lost data or the result of a message you sent. Our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid for Emend in the 12 months before the claim.
• Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that the law doesn't allow to be limited, or takes away your rights as a consumer where you live.

The law

The laws of Jordan govern these terms. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim there.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email you or tell you in the app at least 14 days before the change applies. If you don't agree, you can cancel Pro or delete your account before then. Using Emend after a change means you accept it.
